Apologies to anywone who got the first poll by email - the poll was set to close in 3 days. Blasted scroll wheel, I say!

The time has come. We ended up with 9 entries, although I'm curious as to what stopped others from participating. Nevertheless, let us not dwell on the past, but move into the future! The rules for this poll are as follows:

1. All advertisements have followed the criteria for the most part. I think two of them might not have the link to this site, but I'm going to let that slide this time. I'm a bit disappointed, but we'll just leave it be.

2. Try not to mark the advertisement based on what hold it is. If, for instance, someone did your hold Beethro and the Roach-Infested Ice-Cream Parlor, don't give him higher marks because of it.

3. The best way that I can recommend you vote for these ads is to view them all, then do other things for a small period of time. Heck, even view them in the morning, go to work, and then come back. Look at the list of entries, and try to recall them. Which one made the best impression? Which one was the most memorable? Which ones had you forgotten about? From there, then reopen them all and give them marks based on your memory of them, creativity, originality, and presentation. Remember - 10 is the highest, while 1 is the lowest. Consider 10 the "I had it in my mind all through work! What style! What creativity!" and 1 the "I don't even remember ever seeing this ad. Hey! On second glance, this isn't even interesting!".

4. All advertisement writers must rate their ads a "10".

5. The poll closes on Local Time:03-30-2006 at 07:00 PM. No earlier, no later!

Now, this is where you expect nine posts after this, but guess what? I've got the power!

*Starts groving to the "I've Got the Power" song*

In fact, our wonderful advertisements are right here, all sorted and ready for you. Enjoy!

I'll leave my comments on all of the advertisements as soon as I figure out how to do that fancy shmancy reveal-time tag work stuff.

Don't forget about the Help page - that's what it's there for. That, and the fact that I had a hand in it wants me to remind others about it.

Alright, here are my opinions on the advertisements:

1. (TAPAKAHbI yCaTbIe) Okay, but not particularly memorable, and the joke, while pretty funny the first time, wasn't that funny after the first time. A 6 from me.

2. (Entrapment) Not that bad, but I found the white background and plain black text rather dull. This earns a non-discriminatory 5.

3. (H I J K) Very good. Colorful, and the acronym usage was superb. I found this sticking with me too. The only thing I found wrong with it was that there weren't any sort of screenshots, but it was an exceedingly minor flaw. This gets a 9.

4. (Loony Labyrinth) Beh. I couldn't see the room at all underneath the text. It looked kinda sloppy to me. Voted 4 on this one.

5. (Roach Fest) Despite much effort on my end, I was unable to view this. Flash just must hate me and my Firefox browser. Therefore, I gave this a non average-mussing 5.

6. (Whispering Walls) Mine. I believe I did a pretty good job in relation to the other entries. :)

7. (Veere's Dungeon) Yuck. Way too much stuff going on in this one, so it wasn't very memorable at all. If I saw this on TV, I would immediately get a sandwich. Three for me this.

8. (MetDROiD Prime) It looked good, and the message was okay, but it just really lacked that ad "oomph" that makes it stick with you. The advertisement earns a 6 from me.

9. (Smallsome Swicks) This took some trouble to view, and once it did, I, frankly, wasn't that impressed. Sure, the serpent was a surprise, but it lacked... interesting stuff. Stuff I'd bother listening to. I smacked a three onto this one.

Here are mine.

I rated mine on what I person who didn't know DROD would think. I really liked Roach Fest, if I wasn't a DRODer, that would've made me one. But others, like MetDROiD Prime just really didn't cut it for me.

I'd like to make a rant now that 75% of this forum are not blocks of cheese!

I knew I shouldn't have added that option.

And here are my comments:

1. Short & clever.
2. Dull & boring. What was it advertising again?
3. Liked the different things the Hold name could stand for. Clever.
4. The challenge issued would have made me want to play if I hadn't already conquered this hold.
5. Annoying and too long. Didn't watch to the end. Made me want to subject the author to a Vogan Poetry recitation.
6. The description was great. Made me want to play the Hold again.
7. Great graphics. Made me want to play.
8. Didn't really say a lot about the hold but neat to look at
9. Catchy and clever.

I noticed that the Roach Fest flash file seems to require Flash 8, which isn't available for Linux* (it just stops at the 'Roach Fest' text in Flash 7.. doesn't Flash have version check support ?). Anyway, Firefox w/Flash 8 in Wine works fine.

The Smallsome Swicks flash file seems to work fine in Flash 7.

Ah! And here I thought that was the entire advert. I'm afraid my vote for this one is rated lower than it might have been, then.

Some thoughts...

My votes tended to be lower than the average as of the time I voted (i.e. a total of 39 votes). I found Entrapment quite boring, HIJK somewhat uninspiring; Loony Labyrinth managed three errors in grammar or spelling in a mere 400x300 image, and didn't really sell me. Roach Fest was a nice idea that went on too long; Veere's Dungeon was kind of cluttered. All in all, just not all that inspiring.

As for me, I didn't enter simply because of time; this month was busier than I expected.

If I had more free time, my entry would have probably been much better.

As it stands, well, it was a busy month.
April should yield more free time and therefore a halfway-decent entry.

Congratulations to the 3 winners. They were all very impressive.

My entry, for my hold H I J K, looked like a strong contender in the voting for 3rd place. That's kind of surprising when you consider that I really limited myself by 1) creating the whole thing by scratch (no screenshots, clipart or other found pictures were used) and 2) limited myself to four word phrases with each word starting with H I J K to list the selling points.

I was going for a less is more, old style book cover that I tend to associate with logic puzzle books. Kind of like Douglas R. Hofstadter's Metamagical Themas cover.

My, my. Someone's a bit greedy to get his second place. :P

Still, you don't know who the rest of the entries were for, and only I have the key to that, so let's look at the proper and correct list now:

First Place: vylycyn for Veere's Dungeon (6.9545)
Second Place: Chaco for Whispering Walls (6.25)
Third Place: The_Red_Hawk for Smallsome Swicks (6)
Fourth Place: Tscott (Suprise, suprise) for H I J K (5.8636)
Fifth Place: NiroZ for Roach Fest (5.75)
Sixth Place: techant for MetDROiD Prime (5.5681)
Seventh Place: Maurog for TAPAKAHbI yCaTbIe (5.159)
Eigthth Place: techant for Loony Labyrinth (4.5681)
Ninth Place: Pinnacle for Entrapment (4.409)

At least I'm pretty confident that this is right. File names tend to get a bit evil for me. So, we have four prizes being given out on today's show.

vylycyn walks away with 100 rank points and an item from the glorious Prize Pile. vylycyn, I'd recommend that you email Erik about which prize you want, as I'm no help in that matter.

Chaco, for picking up second place, you'll be getting 50 rank points. Use them however you wish.

The_Red_Hawk, the creator of Mr. Fancy-Pants flash animation number two, you get the traditional 25 rank points added to your stockpile.

Although I couldn't believe it, Pinnacle is a rookie, so he gets 10 points just for being on the show.

Let's give our contestants a big hand! This was a very difficult and detailed contest, and I'm suprised I had as many entries as I did.

I'll wait a bit before points get handed out. I want to make sure I'm correct on everything.
