I need help with this room. I start by becoming visible then put the first mimic in the orb area. The snake dies while killing the roaches as they approach me. Then I head north to step on one red square to limit the roach attack. Then I try to use the north mimic to step on the trap doors in the east room. Is this right so far? I know the only safe place to swing my sword is on the center square.

a theoretic answer, because i not played the room:
however you move beethro, you have to use one mimic to hit the orbs . i think this must be the first one. one mimic must kill the brain. one mimic must clear two roach-'caves' and the last one the third roach-area.

and if you once figured out how the orbs are working it could be better to stay invisible for a while...

i hope i will play this room in future but i'm still fighting in level 5 at the moment

1st of all let me just say I thought this room was awesome.

I believe you are doing the same as I did through the "..approach me."

I took about 2^n moves (where n approaches a very large number) to solve this room. Maybe you can do better.

this don't seems to me like a LARGE number if you don't write it in LARGE

for me....

maybe you can tell where you exactly placed your first mimic
and what your plan was after that

Here's a little more..
Place mimic 1 at spot 2.
Wait for snake to die.
With sword NE place mimic 3 at 4.
I went back into the central and took my time (yes, plenty of it) getting the mimic to be well below Beethro mostly by moving north while a roach blocks the mimic. Now have the mimic clear out the southern chamber.

and after that?

the northern mimic doesn't seem to be the one, but neither does the corner one..

This room is a tricky one. I so like this hold.

×The northern mimic is indeed the one. Grabbing the northern mimic potion and getting Beethro back to the central chamber where he can defend himself is tricky.

×I ended up running all the way around the outside of the northern chamber in a counter-clockwise direction after getting the potion. I didn't stop to kill any roaches on this trip.

×You have to get the mimic at just the right time. You want to wait and clear out enough roaches so that you don't die when back out of the little cubbyhole where the mimic was. But if you wait too long in the spawn cycle, new roaches will come around the other side and get you.

When I stepped on the mimic potion, there were roaches coming at me from positions (1), (2), (3), and (4) in this picture:

I just can't get the timing right. I feel so close but then I always get caught between a roach and a roach. I think this might be the last room I'm capable of completing, I didn't have luck with the other two rooms on this level I need to complete, much less the nonrequired ones. I went and looked at the levels ahead and they don't look any better. I love this hold, but I just wish I could finish it!

I'm a bit baffled by the hints gven for this room - it looks like there are 2 different approaches.
I need to know how to get the northern mimic and get back to the centre. I've tried numerous times but always seem to miss by one or two. After hours I'm ready to ask for help please.

I don't see two different approaches here. Larry and I are talking about different parts of the same solution.

This is a long room, and getting the northern mimic is not what you do first. First you do the steps Larry describes. Sequoh and ChrisB ask about what comes next (which is what you're asking) and my two replies apply to that question.

Okay, now I'm even more confused. This is what I've done:
1st killed the snake
2nd removed one red tile from northern group
3rd got mimic from eastern wall and moved it into southern group of red tiles
This means that I will be a mimic short. Thus do I not remove the red tile in step 2? when I try that I can't seem to survive the onslaught of roaches.Some extra hints would be great.

Your second step is wrong, as you need one mimic to clear both the northern and eastern sections.

Before you put the eastern mimic into the southern section, you must use that mimic to clear roaches off your tail. Larry explains where to place it here (look at his picture in secret tags). Then there's a bunch of maneuvering to actually get it down into the southern section.

Regardless, I can't seem to make much progress beyond here. The roaches coming from behind stymie me every way I try. I can't go much to the right because I'll drop the trapdoor and be unable to kill the queen.
