If a guard steps on a mimic potion, it will set another guard near it. the second guard will act exactly like the first one, only the first one will pay no attention to the mimic, except treat it like another guard and not kill it. the guard wont make the guard mimic kill him either. The guard mimic could drop trapdoors, like a regular mimic. I can see a number of interesting puzzles leading from this.

Well, clearly the interaction between guards and mimic potions can't be changed for backwards compatibility reason. So this would require adding a second type of mimic potion. Other than that, I don't know. Why would a guard mimic drop trapdoors when a guard can't? What happens when a guard steps on a second guard-mimic potion? How would the guard choose which square to put the mimic in? If he puts it too close, it will basically get in the way more than anything else.

Oh, and if Beethro kills the original guard but not the mimic, what would the mimic do?

I guess you are right about backwards compatability. I didn't think of that. But the mimic would drop trapdoors because normal mimics drop trapdoors. The guard would have a preference for placing, probably two squares away. I was kind of thinking that guards would use normal mimic potions, but I see your point. If the guard died, the mimic would die too.
