From drod.net:
Email questions about SourceForge, Webfoot DROD, Caravel DROD, and TLK DROD; as well as negotiations for DROD movie rights to: Erik Hermansen - DROD Author.

So who would be playing Beethro? His sister? Hallholder Bombus? Who'd be writing script, directing ect?

Let your minds run rampant < takes cover > :D

More importantly: How would the plot last 90 minutes?

It's fun to play, but not so fun to watch.

Matt

Will get back to you - I've got to do Level 22: Because If One Mimic Is Fun, Nine Must Be even Funner; Level 23: Goblins & Snakes Don't Mix; Level 24: The City The Milkman Doesn't Go To; and Level 25: This Town Ain't Big Enough For Both Of Us, level titles from my forthcoming DROD: The Walkthrough, available on LP, cassette and CD, before I get to see the ending.

Hmm, looking at Level 25 makes me want to get back to my graphics fiddling. I'm thinking now I might make a conversion, perhaps a Discworld one, or maybe a one-man-against-the-crime-lord setting, going from location to location until he reaches the crime lord's blimp.

Only problem is I'd have to kill the ending, as it wouldn't fit. It's an interesting idea, though, and if I could work out how to do my own ending I could program it on.

Legal issues, though. Obviously Erik and Lucas would naturally want recognition for design, and so would the coding team, but the legal repercussions of changing what's basically licensed from Webfoot?

Of course, none of these sweeping changes will probably ever exist, so no real problems.

Matt

CG all the way. It's so much more fun than RL, and you can do way more things with it, and depict what you want more accurately. BTW, I love your level titles.

Hmm...I don't think any of these selections really fit Beethro, other than the last one. Beethro was designed for ugly, and the list of actors there doesn't exactly make that. CG.

Come on, I see plenty of proof that you guys have a(n un)healthy imagination, why not use it for something completely useless for a while (or is that a big taboo here? :D ).

My thought was a "what if..".. some Hollywood bigshot got introduced to DROD, and somehow had a vision that this would be his studio's next big moneymaker..

My first take was a Wachowski brothers production, them adding their own script to the already existing concept, and of course directing..

I can just imagine the hero dodging snakes bullet time style, probably to some nu-metal soundtrack.. How about a big fight scene with hordes of goblins storming towards our poor hero? Or maybe you can picture in your mind the big panning shot of a vast expanse of computer animated, tar baby breeding, Living Tar? :eyes

Of course a movie 100% true to the game would be rather dull (right? :D ). But what if you put a different spin on it, like my Matrix-esque one? What's your vision? DROD cowboy movie? Teenage horror wozzname genre, like the Scream movies? Give your minds a spin and amuse us all :D

If you think about it, Beethro can control time. Time doesn't pass until he makes a move. And the faster he moves, the faster time passes.

Now that I think of it, Robin Williams would make a pretty good Beethro. He's not exactly handsome to begin with, and a few strategic globs of Silly Putty on his face would make him look just like the Smitemaster.

Just had a new thought:

This mining spaceship on it's way back to earth, loaded with cargo, crew of 7.. They recieve a distress beacon signal.. Go to inspect, and finds a planet with a crashed spaceplane on it.. With some eggs in it..

Cue Alien-style spaceship DROD, starring Sigourney Weaver as an (ableit rather buff) female counterpart to Beethro :D

David and Peter Paul ("The Barbarian Brothers") as Beethro (and his Mimic(s)), with Megan Cavanaugh ("Broomhilde" from "Robin Hood: Men In Tights") as his sister.

Produced by Rob Reiner and the Delouise boys, directed by Peter Delouise. Script by Erik, of course, with some help from a Hollywood Lackey...

Do I win? :D

However, it's quite cool!

One thing though - don't you think the sword is a little on the thin side? I think it should be a giant two-handed sword or something like that...

It's been quite a while since anyone posted in this thread, but I had a suggestion to make. The Construct the Story thread is turning out to be quite interesting, and I thought that perhaps the story could be used in a sequel movie for DROD (with a poll asking for the storyline wanted when the thread was broken up). Another sequel idea might be a movie for the ACDOD hold. Just some thoughts.

Eh?

How would you turn "The Adventures Of Beethro" into a movie? It might have some interesting and amusing scenes, but I think the plot will be to twisty/changeable for, well, being worth watching.

Yep, Michael Keaton was Beetlejuice...but I was most surprised to learn a while ago that Geena Davis's husband was Alec Baldwin! I couldn't believe it...

Game on,
