Every time that I've played this room, I've escaped to the south. Then again, my solution is far from efficient, so I'm sure it's possible to do it in both ways.

If it helps you, the squares from the brain goes as follows:

OK, but me remain about 30 moves to end - hehe. You started south and...
You go west or north??
If you go west - how far you go??
next go you top or next west or you back to start ??
Kill you all eyes or some you left and kill later??

Well, there goes my perfect run of not ever posting for help in JtRH.

I've tried everything mentioned in this thread. I do everything as fast as possible, letting eyes come to me whenever I can, but the fastest I've gotten is five squares from the southern exit. I can't see a way to be any more efficient without dying.

Do I need to post my method of solving the room, or is there a bit where pretty much everyone was being inefficient, me included?

There's no specific trick for this room, so I doubt there is one area where we all lost time the first time around. You should post your method, if you are ready to give up, or try harder, if you have the spirit of the true fighter.

Pretty much. I think most people progressively improve their efficiency on this room until they finally solve it. It can be done, and your method is probably close to what is needed, but you're missing the chance to activate some eyes early on (or perhaps activating too many so you are wasting time killing them inefficiently). Remember that if you have a stretch where you can't kill an eye every turn, or you can't advance while killing eyes sporadically, then you probably need to wake the eyes differently. Identify which ones must be awoken early, and which ones can be awoken on the way back from where you need to go to get all of them.

Game on,

Ah. I thought so.

One last question before I go back to this room, and it's a little off topic...

How many secrets are on Level 22? I've already solved the one in
Click here to view the secret text

but I want to know if it's alright to just not solve this room and head right to Level 23, still having access to the Dreamplane.

It's always all right to skip a secret room, coming back and solving it later counts just as much as solving it the first time around. And once you conquer the hold, the Restore screen will tell you how many secrets there are on each level (and how many you've completed).

Game on,

You can solve secrets in any order you want; the game will tell you how many there are per level and how many in total you've got once you've conquered the hold. So, do not worry about getting all secrets right now. Incidentally, do you actually *need* to conquer the hold to drop the Master walls? I suspect it is not necessary, though in practice it *will* be the case for almost all players.

If you still want to know how many secrets there are on level 22 (no hint about where they are):

Yes, you do need to conquer the hold. You do not need to conquer every required room, however. So you can, for example, skip level 13 in KDD2.0 and, since it doesn't have any secret rooms, you will still be able to pass the Master Walls after you conquer the hold and all the secret rooms.

I knew that, I just wanted to know if I would end up needing to beat this room if I wanted to get to a later secret to access the Dreamplane. Guess so.

I'm still getting five moves, even with some creative tweaking on my part, so I guess I'll just come back later. Thanks anyway.

*bump*

I managed to make a small innovation that saved one move, but I still can't seem to get there in time. I've tried everything within the realm of sanity and several things outside of it.

Here's a demo of me being four moves away. Can any of you tell me what I'm doing wrong here?

I really don't see how that's going to automagically shave four moves off my score, but I'll try it anyway to see if it does one.

EDIT:

I managed to get down to one move short - twice! And yet I still can't seem to get there in time. :weep

Well, what I'm doing is this:

Click here to view the secret text

And, as a general tip - make sure you don't leave eyes behind where you have to walk a mile to wake them or get to them, and try to swing your sword as little as possible, especially rotating it 180 degrees or more just to kill a single eye.

Hope this helps. :)

Hmm. That route's different from the one I was trying.

Anyway, I got it. That... was awful. And torturous. I do _not_ want to do that again. Ever.

I have worked on this room for 2 days and always come up 2-3 moves short. I finished KDD and now am at this level. This might just be the end for me on this hold as I just cant get through this room. I understand what to try to do but can't complete it. Anyone with further help or demo would be appreciated.

Thanks

I didn't duck into the area near the green door. If you're doing that, you might shave a few moves off by just running past it. In fact, see how long you can keep moving after killing the first two (or four) eyes. I think another big part of this room is learning how to kill certain formations of brained eyes without moving your sword.

If you're really careful how you move at the top of the room you can make the eyes eventually come at you in such a way that lets you kill some of them while moving forward, saving you some moves. The best demo does this... but it's not required.

Thanks for the suggestion. At the top, all I can do is kill the eyes by moving up and down and not move forward. Are there any examples of this technique? There are two times where there is a space between oncoming eyes where I can step forward, but most of the time I and standing still. In the demos you site are there still two sleeping eyes at the end before they go for the brain. If there weren't two remaining eyes to wake up, I could go for the brain directly and save many moves.
Thanks
