I, uh.

When you die, it's basically like pressing R, though, and if you're wasting the time on keyboard strokes, backspace/r really isn't that much slower than r itself.

No it ain't.
And this wasn't THE feature request I couldn't live with, so I guess I'll be happy whether it is implemented or not.
THE feature I wanted implemented was smurfs, and they'd be basically like wubbas (harmless), yet if you drank an evil sorcerer potion you'd HAVE to crush them, allowing for some pretty bizarre puzzles, because when in evil sorcerer mode wraiths, and roaches would be your friends, yet you'd have to kill them too to finish the level...

Yeah! Smurfs, definitely.
