The "Users By Country" statistic graph is pretty cool, Schik!

I didn't know that there are 3 times the number of American Users here than there are people from the United Kingdom.

Looking at the numbers, does this mean that just under half of all the registered users have actually set their countries to N/A?

Hmmm... I wonder if I should change my country to Israel, then - I put it US because that's where I live, but I'm Israeli, not American...

I think it is a cool idea. The main thing we would need for this is someone to create the graphics for some DROD smilies. I would shower this person with praise and rank points.

That's fine for what it is, but I think we'd do well to have side views on the smilies, like the rest of them.

There are already graphics of enemies here that are being used for AIM buddy icons. Wouldn't it be possible to just use those files?

If not, I could probably make some animated/stationary ones if there are size restricions [Size as in Pixel, not bytes]. I'm currently fiddeling around in the GeneralBitmaps file anyway, and it wouldn't take too long to make some quick ones.

Side views?

All the smilies are viewed directly flat, not from the side.

Did you mean one should make it more "3-D" than it is now?

Well, I have my 'resume' of animated graphics for use in forum. I'll admit that they aren't that good, but are clever.

#1 - :roach (see atachment on this post) [14x14 pixels

Overhead roach turns 360o, then blinks. Just a quick show of what you can do with the GeneralBitmaps.bmp file and a bit of creativity! It's compiled of 10 jpgs and is set to a speed of 10 ms(miliseconds).

#2 - :slashfest (see attachment in next post) [42x42 pixels]
Beethro turns 360 degrees while killing 8 monsters. A bloodtrail is left behind him as he turns. Good for the architecture forum when you need a clever way to tell someone that a room is a slashfest, or to describe what a hectic day you've had! Compiled with 8 jpgs and set to a speed of 14 ms.

Final note: Please don't give me rank points for these. Instead, let them go to either Erik or Pinnacle, since it was their idea. I was just happy to use this as an excuse to learn how to make animated gifs, although I would take the praise.. :)

If you need to use a hippie emoticon, just type this:
<img>http://www.zovoc.nl/images/smiles/icon_hippie.gif </img>,
except use [ and ] instead of < and >, and you'll end up with this:

Could you make a list of possible ones that you want to have on the website? All I'm waiting for is some word on how many and what kind of styles you want. If you need to, e-mail me with some ideas you have.

I don't see why I should come up with this. You should just take requests, and do whichever ones you like the best. (S'only fair since you're doing the work!) The two you came up with so far are pretty cool, BTW.

Fair enough. I'll just start a new board then for requests. My ultimate goal would be to have as many DROD ones as possible, but I'll just make a whole schwack of them and Schik/You can pick the best.

icon The banner images are too wide (0)
I originally made this a new thread, but then I realized it should go in here.

I found myself using an 800x600 resolution today, and I noticed that the vertical scrollbar makes the screen a little narrower, so the two banner images are suddenly too wide. Could they be shrunk a little without losing their crispness, so that there's no horizontal scrollbar at the bottom of the screen because of them?

I posted a poll recently, and wanted to edit it (I left out an option) and I can't! :(

Can you change it so they can be edited?

I've asked for this before, the response came back something to the effect of "but then you could swap options around and change the vote to something else"... there's just no way to control what you do if you're allowed to edit a poll.

Now, if you can more specifically add options to it, without being able to edit text or remove options, that I'd support if there's an easy way to edit that part of the database table.

That would still invalidate the existing votes - what if I already voted but I like one of the new options better? I think it's easiest to just delete the poll and make a new one if you need to change the options.

icon Bizarre bug (0)
If you go to http://www.drod.net/forum/viewtopic.php?TopicID=1414&page=10#32555 which is the Deep Hold thread in Architecture, Red Hawk put a quote tag inside a secret tag, and the available width of his content was narrowed to that of the contents of the first secret. This seems really bizarre, and made it a little interesting to read the thread. Is there a way to detect this combination and correct it if it happens?

It was actually like that because of a [/secret] tag without a [secret] tag.

Here's a quote inside a secret:

Yep, that works fine.

icon Check-box poll (0)
Not a big thing, but...

I've just noticed that for a check-box poll, if you check no boxes because none applies, your vote will be rejected. Perhaps it should be said in this case, that the poll is poorly designed if there is no "none of the above" box or if the poll is not such that at least one option must apply. In this case, poll posters should just realise that the polls should maybe be designed more carefully. I don't suppose it is worth the effort to make a confirmation step a la "Do you really wish to vote for none of the options?", but at least everyone should be aware of the fact.

icon "thread started" info (0)
I visit the forum once or twice a week and don't really have time to read all posts. I notice, for example, when looking at the "Holds" forum, that the most vital information for me isn't really "timestamp of latest post", but rather "timestamp of thread initiation" or whatever you want to call it. Since I don't know all the holds by proper name which I have downloaded, in most cases I'd like to skim over those which only contain criticism, bug squashing, what have you, unless it is a hold I am currently having a problem with. A "thread started" timestamp would probably solve the problem, in that I could recognise at a glance whether it contains a hold uploaded since my last visit. Thanks for considering it.

Could we enable the locking of threads, so a topic that was dealt with and finalized can fade in to the background? It's probably only suitable for forum moderators, but it might be neat if the starter of the thread could also lock it when their needs have been met.

I've seen threads locked, like the test thread and a thread that someone started on the general board. I don't think it would be good to allow users to lock their own topics, since it would allow them to duck out of an argument or avoid further discussion. Also, I've seen forums where the mods have gone completely lock-happy (doing things that, on this forum, would be equivalent to locking any hints topic about any room that has been mentioned before) so we'd better avoid that. Yeah.
