It's time to look into accounting software, and almost everyone recommends Quickbooks without hesitation. But I'm cheap, and I'm trying to see if it's worth the rather hefty price tag. Is it really that much different from Quicken? They're made by the same company, is Quicken more of a "budget" brand?
My needs are pretty simple, aside from keeping books for 2 different businesses. I don't need to print checks, invoices or prifit/loss statements as much as I'd like to see what kind of profit margins I'm having.
I'd be very grateful if anyone has some advice to throw my way.
Thanks!!

Brittany

Oh, also...

Anybody know of good open source bookkeeping/accounting software? It seems there should be a good one around by now.

The open source bookkeeping program I've seen is GnuCash, but it's not available for Windows. I don't use it, either, because I haven't figured out how to decode the Quicken file format to get my data out of Quicken, thus forcing me to reboot to Windows every month or so when my receipts pile up high enough. (Stupid proprietary file formats, grumble, grumble.)
