You don't muck about when you make an "unassailable defence", do you? All I can say is 'Ouch'. Here's my reasoning so far on this one:

Well, yes it is definitly possible to get to the west entrance of this room (since that's where I beat it from).

I don't remember if I went around or through the room to get there, but looking at the map, it looks like you can go around (assuming you've beaten every other room on the level):

Not that entering from the west makes it easy :) It does, however, make it possible.

I didn't think it was too bad from the west. Not trivial, by any means, but mostly you know what you have to do, its just perservering to the end.

I believe it's possible to complete it from the south entrance (I haven't tried it since one of the beta-builds, so I'm not sure if it is anymore. There's no brain in the room, so I guess it's possible)

Very late edit: I dug up some old dats from a beta build and found the demo, but I had remembered wrong. It's not possible from the south entrance, but it is possible to clear all the surrounding mud before killing the mother.

If ye manage a demo of that, ye should post it on challenges.

Yikes! How do you do this room?

Here's what I tried:

So, are any of those ways the *right* way to do this room? Or am I just completely missing the point?

Well, my demo of the room seems to have been corrupted (must be some game logic changed in one of the patches).

But I can tell you which of your options is the right idea (though there may be others..)

Yes it is!

HA, less than 3 minutes after reading your hint, I solved the room.

How is it possible to enter this room from the NW entrance? The room next to it, which I have solved, has a BLUE BARRIER!

There are two NW entrances to this room. The one you want (the lower one) in order to complete the room is not blocked by a blue door.

Hmmm . . . I've tried approaching the mud mother 'n' snake combo from all directions, and with all non-suicidal sword angles, and I am always inundated with both snakes and babies.

The most promising appears to be to start in from the west, with sword pointed east, but my lifespan is still very short. What am I missing?

Thanks -

I find the rattlesnakes easier to deal with using a diagonal sword (SE in my case) -- you can then attack a snake from above or the left.

Try to kill as many snakes as you can as quickly as you can, then get the mud mother. By the time the babies get released you should have enough room to deal with them.

I am reassured, this was my assessment of the best way in. I can kill up to 10 of the original 18 bluesnakes before being overrun . . .

And - in the true magic of the forum, while parking this message I solved the room. Thanks!

Interstingly, SE is the 2nd most efficient (equal with NW) way of killing a rattlesnake, with NE being the best. This is because the default motion of a snake in trouble is East or North.

So are you trying to say that if you enter the room from the south part , it is impossible to solve it? :fun

What about the challenge of killing the Mud Mother before it spawns?

This is mostly a matter of efficient snake killing and playing aggressively (i.e., worry more about clearing a path to the eyes than protecting yourself from death)

I've attached a demo in case you need it.
