X is a dropped trapdoor, B is Beethro, and - is his sword.

Well...there's the dozens of user-made holds in the Holds forum just above this one. You can import them into the game from the Change Location menu (see the instructions for help).

Okay, the trapdoor configurations that Onei recommends doesn't work for me at all, so here's mine.

PPP
BP
PP
P
P

With the lower P being the lowest trapdoor. Here's a demo of my best efforts. Help?

I can't access DROD easily right now so I can't check your demo, but did you notice this post of mine?
Oneiromancer wrote:
It's definitely still possible, but I had to step out of my enclosure early on. Basically, once the guards thinned out so that the Slayer was able to send his wisp into me, I had to rotate my sword so that he would keep his distance, and then escape around the top clockwise and kill off the rest of the guards up there, which shouldn't be too bad by now.

Looking at what you've done there:

Click here to view the secret text

It's not easy - but I found it was possible after a few days of struggle. My biggest problem was navigating out of my little trap afterwards without getting sliced by the Slayer, but getting the trapdoors right is the hardest part.

I'm sure either myself or someone else here can email you a demo if you really need one.

Never mind ... as always I solved it a bit ago after posting a message ... just a matter of getting in the "trap", killing all you can ... then pause (5 key) several time to let the E guards come around and block the slayer so I can get out ... then very easy to kill the few remaining guards ... wonders if there is a secret room here to be found?

By the way, how come so many people using this forum have so many points? My measly 41 seems ridiculous :lol

You usually get points by people modding up your posts because you said something interesting, funny, helpful, etc. Likewise, you can lose points by posting mean or offensive things. You can also get points from participating in contests (which I know you haven't done yet) or from clicking on the bar (which perhaps you have done). The people who have a lot of points have been around for a long time, have posted lots of good things, and won lots of contests. The real old-timers started out with a lot of points when the moderation system began, based on their rank at the time, but everyone else starts with 10 and has to work their way up.

This is mostly explained in the FAQ linked under the top banner, especially here.

Well, here I am... 510 level deaths, and posting for luck. Time to set the trap. But I think I've tried it a few times. And tried for Krammer's method (so, so close on that one, but just not quite). So back into the fray!

Phew... 190 more deaths for 700 even. After trying MANY variations on Neil's first method, finally tried his second method and it did the trick the first time I managed to build it.

But wow, thats a real killer room. Especially since most rooms in 25 were easier than the ones in 24, so I'd gotten more relaxed. Onward to glory!

EDIT: And victory!

Ok, I know that I can not get out by the time the slayer get close enough to stomp on me. So how am I messing up? Heck other than the slayer getting too close early on I can clear the room.

I had a nasty time getting away from slayer. The solutions posted didn't work for me...either crossed swords stopped play, or I got whacked.

X=dropped, 0=not dropped, _ = floor
This worked for me, with the lowest X being the lowest tile:

You might want to wrap that diagram of yours in "code"-tags, like this:

That way, it'll be monospaced just like it is in the textarea you're entering it.

np: The Randy Watson Experience - Morning Bell (Exit Music: Songs With Radio Heads)

I'm getting drained of this game. I loved it and want to see the end, but after 24.5 levels I no longer have the patience to even try for a few hours to solve rooms like this one. If you're in the same boat and want to skip past this room, this is the post for you. If you want to retain a shred of dignity and honor and feel like you've actually solved the room yourself, what are you doing reading this hint? I will at least provide spoiler protection for my blatant giveaways.

You have been warned.

Don't worry. This is, in my opinion, the hardest room in JtRH, even if you sort of know what you're doing.

And Oneiro's post should help...he created the room, after all. :P

Thanks, that does make me feel better. :blush I've solved probably 90% of this game w/o hints, and taken only mild hints on another 7%. I've had to take very specific hints on ~10 rooms. I've also got some top-10 scores w/o hints, so I would put myself firmly into the category of "sort of know what I'm doing". :D

I completed this room by reaching the west chamber in 30 moves, then I killed all the guards from the entrance of that chamber..

But I was wondering which is the highest score of moves for this room?

The Challenge:
Enter an alcove before turn 30.

Can somebody give me some guidelines and strategy tips?

I tried some different things,
* entering the room with different sword positions
* going for left or right alcove (north alcove seems very hard/impossible)
* tried making some pit bariers

but all failed :~(

Anyone some ideas?

In my version of JtRH the room looks different.

What am I missing?

In my version of JtRH there are no challenges.
