Your friend may have included custom files in the hold, such as sounds or picture files.
I would expect that even with lots of scripting but no other customisations, a reasonable sized hold shouldn't really exceed 50-100 KB, and even for large ones, I'd be surprised if they are larger than 200-300 KB.
