.. destroy all (most) of the tar? Its pretty hard to get to the next section without being overcome with babies for long enough to get you irritated, make a mistake, and die.

I can actually get to and kill one tar mother from the start.

Any shortcuts, or should I just be hacking and slashing my way through from left to right?

It's tricky but possible.
You should try to destroy as many tar blobs as you can.

Most tar blobs have also checkpoints under them.

Please, I can only destroy two tar blobs before being overwhelmed. Alternately, I can get to a tar mother and be overwhelmed afterward.
If (and only if) no one can help me further, I request a demo.

I can get 4 blobs in the lower left side before I start losing ground.

Should I be attacking them in any sort of pattern, left to right, top to bottom, clockwise?

This room is definitely a slog, but if you plan it well you should be able to get through it.

I'm happy to provide a demo, but won't be able to for several days.

Been hacking and slashing, cleared 5 blobs and no idea where to go next. No danger of getting killed, just not making any progress.

Looking at my demo, it looks like I grabbed the three upper-left blobs first, then worked my way towards the middle-left blob and then the bottom-left. Evidently my main strategy was to cut down on the number of blobs at my back.

I've done the left middle 5 blobs, but not top or bottom middle. It's where to go next that is the challenge. I guess I've tried every one I can reach and failed on all of them.

Much as I hate to say it, perhaps it's time for a demo.
