Since this is such a great game - and is very likely to appeal to DROD fans, and it doesn't have its own forums, I figured that it might as well get it's topic here. Besides, it's vaguely related since Erik designed some of it's levels :)

Anyway, my main problem with the game is the lack of any indication of difficulty levels - I guess they're mostly subjective, anyway, but at the moment I'm somewhat at a loss to what level to try next. Also, I've solved several levels, but I haven't figured out if I'm getting better at this or whether I'm just doing the easy ones. So I thought I might try to compare my list of solved levels with other players - to see what (if any) are the levels most people solve early on, and which are taking more time.

Anyway, after all this preamble, here are the levels I solved and the amount of moves it took me to do so:

Shareware 1 (4)
Shareware 2 (8)
Shareware 3 (3)
Shareware 4 (7)
Shareware 5 (7)
Shareware 6 (16)
Shareware 7 (24)
Claustrophobia (31)
Corynthian Columns (14)
Distractions (16)
Dodge Ball (8)
Escape from Alcetraz (15)
Fill In the Blank (15)
Keep on Turning (7)
Minefield Monster (30)
Nowhere to Run (23)
Put a Cork in it (8)
Quarter (19)
Spiral of Death (27)
Splotch 1 (27)

p.s. If anyone knows the 25 arrow solution to Spiral of Death mentioned on the MM3 website please let me know... It's been driving me crazy.

I think you mixed up the # of arrows used in Shareware 2 and 3.

I still haven't found enough time to play more levels than the first three shareware ones, perhaps tonight...

Game on,

It seems to me the shareware levels were pretty easy to grasp, but all the other ones seem to completely stump me. I do wish the levels were somehow sorted by difficulty, so thanks for this list eytanz.

I suppose it will just take some adjusting to be able to think in the correct mode of the game, drod seemed to come to me more naturally.

After several hours I've been able to solve only two non-shareware levels: Keep on tuning (13) and Claustrophobia (20).

I think Corynthian Columns, Dodgeball and Spiral of Death, as well as the two levels mentioned by bdcribbs, make for the easiest non-shareware levels.

I guess you are going to town. I think the idea of indicating a level for the difficulty of the puzzle is a good one. I will probably wait until enough new people solve the puzzles and I will get their input.

It is a subjective thing, though. Sometimes, it takes a while to "see" the answer. After which, the puzzle becomes simple.

As for the best solutions, I have a copy somewhere - but I haven't been able to find it. The results listed on the web site are from a previous web-site so I know those are accurate.

If you (or anyone reading this) solves a non-Shareware puzzle in FEWER arrows than is indicated on the site, send me the solution and I will add your name to the list.

Also, if you (or anyone reading this) solves a non-Shareware puzzle using the SAME number of arrows as indicated on the site, and there is NO name listed, send me the solution and I will add your name to the list.

Aside from the lack of intuitiveness and the suggestions that you folks are coming up with, has anyone actually crashed the game?

Roland

Dang! I was *so* close to the solution - my 27 arrow solution is extremely similar - I thought I considered all possible red/blue orderings but I missed the one that counts. Well done! I guess you and Scott now can get your names in the statistics page :)

What does everyone out there think? Would DROD's value be enhanced by adding a similar flavor of room statistics/records (smallest # of moves, or whatever) in the future, or would this merely serve to complicate things?

Hmmm... Well, I think it will just get in the way of normal DROD gameplay (which is structured quite differently than MM), but would enhance replay value. So maybe one thing that can be done is that such statistics won't be displayed until after the hold in question is completed - in which case they will appear, and hardcore players will be able to compete for optimal solutions of rooms?

I think that's a great idea! It has to be after the hold is done though. None of this ingame replay stuff.
