When you arrive to the future scene, you get a bag with a key plus the red gemstone you lost earlier.
But then you don't get a chance to ever use that gemstone.
So why did you bother to include it in the bag?

The intent was that in the next scene, you have to leave the gemstone where you'll originally find it earlier in the game. But I found that made the puzzle too complex (and a bit redundant). So now it's just there as a callback.
