Here's a method that is maybe simpler than DF's. (or not!)

×If there weren't that set of three southward force arrows, the inner section could be done by one projection and the mirror.

×Projections only follow the moves that you actually do - if the Beethro gets pushed around while being recorded, the projection won't do the "pushed" move (as long as he doesn't get hit by a stick again)

×So, basically, projection 2 eventually does all the work with the mirror. Projection 1 has to push you around when recording so you have the space to do all the moves. i.e. for the first bit heading north, Beethro steps north, P1 pushes him south a bunch of times, so you end up with 10+ North steps on the record.
On the third iteration you have to get projection 2 to escape the 3x3 box. You can do this by initially pushing him into the force arrows, which will be deactivated on the third Beethro.
It still is confusing, as you need to keep track of
a) where P2 and mirror will be on the final iteration
b) where P2 will be on the 2nd iteration.
I do this room in bits. Do some stuff with P1, then test that the final two iterations work. If it's all good, rewind and go a bit further. If not, rewind futher and try to fix it.
You can use stepping on the checkpoint in different orientations to keep track of where you expect to be.
