At least one of those assumptions must be wrong in order for this room to be solvable:
1. You can't clear all the gel with the sword, briar is needed to clear the rest.
2. Given how the gel is shaped, you will always be left with a 3x3 piece either directly east of the middle or directly south.
3. It takes 9 briar cycles for the brain-locking plate to be triggered. That's not enough to remove either of the 3x3 pieces.
4. There is no way to double cut the gel.
5. There is no way to use briar together with the sword to make a fancy cut that allows you to clear up all the gel before the 9 briar cycles.
6. You need to release the briar before all the gel is removed.
7. There is no way to kill the brain without first removing gel and after the pressure plate is held down.
Now the question is, where am I wrong?
