I'm confused.

There isn't enough room in the rattlesnake's starting area to get access to its tail. Consequently, it seems I have to lead it through most of the starting area and then somehow get it into the eastern section.

So I have two problems. First, I can't figure out how to do that. I've made some attempts, but they still don't get the rattlesnake far enough in to access its tail.

Second, I have no idea how I'm supposed to kill the rattlesnake at the end even if I actually manage to get access to its tail.

I could use some help here.
