When I designed my DROD RPG hold, I put in a version check to make sure the user was running the most current version of RPG. I did this by checking for buggy behaviors that were fixed by the release of Tendry's Tale.

It appears that the version on Steam has one of the behaviors that was supposed to have been fixed. I'm writing this to see if there's a mistake in Steam's DROD RPG, or if the behavior was edited back to the way it used to be originally (the maintainers decided to change the behavior back to an older version, for whatever reason).

I played your hold on the most recent non-Steam version 1.2.7.316 and it also ends up claiming I'm running a beta version. As far as I am aware the Steam version is also the most recent version (you can see the version number on the title screen)

But I am confused as to what this hold is supposed to be checking for. Wait for Event Monster Engaged is supposed to trigger as soon as the fight begins, which it is, so the current behaviour is expected? How were you expecting this to work?

I agree that seems correct. It's just different.

In the beta version it worked that way, but then they changed it to lock in attributes once the monster was engaged in combat.

Apparently they changed it back at some point.
