I tried both Eclipse and Visual Studio, and got absolutely nowhere with them. Are there any other options out there that don't suck hard? Or do I need to buckle down and keep trying to understand them?

I'm out of the loop on C++ IDEs these days.

But in general, I try to change my IDE every year or two. It's good to force the brain to work different ways and not get caught up in one environment. Also, I just think of them as unglamorous tools. If the basic features are there--open multiple files/projects, run a debugger, syntax highlighting, etc. then good enough.

All that said, what is it that you don't like about what you've tried or are looking to find?

*bump*

Well, seven months later, I finally found Microsoft Visual Studio 2017. It's free, and better yet, it works! Glorious day!

Thanks for the advice, Mr. H. :)

If the C++ is lightweight enough I just use NetBeans. But I use NetBeans for anything that isn't Android Studio.
