Is there such a thing as indigo/violet color blindness?
They both look like purple to me.

So far, the DROD audience seems to have a color blindness ratio (13.3%) much larger than the world average (4.5%). DROD players are nearly 300% more likely than the rest of the population to be color blind.

What is going on here?!?!

Follow-up poll: Did you become color-blind after playing DROD?

I can assure that color-blindness happens proportionally to how many potions you drink, and how long you wait before placing a double.

I think it's more likely that color-blind people are significantly more likely to answer a poll about color blindness, placement on the DROD forum is just a confounding variable.

Okay, in all seriousness...

DROD must be quite a harsh game for people with color vision deficiencies. There are several elements that look exactly the same except for color. And worse, the colors on these elements (tarstuffs, doors) are sometimes red and green, which appear very similar in the most common two forms of CVD.

My apologies to people having trouble. Since there are many more men playing DROD than women (way less prone to CVD), I'd expect something more like 10% of players have trouble seeing elements distinctly.

Hmm. Or actually a bunch of those folks probably already gave up on DROD out of frustration, so DROD players with CVD are sadly rarer.

Another thing I would have fixed years ago if I was thinking about it.

FWIW, my colourblindness isn't that bad. And you (or Mike, or some other person) did - the doors are all patterned differently now. IIRC, the only things that only differ by colour are tar/mud/gel (and babies and mothers) and down gates. There were, historically, a few other forumites who are colourblind (MeckMeck GRE is the only one I can find right now, but he didn't have any problems with DROD either).

The idea of some people not playing DROD because of colour is true, but I'd suspect it's very few people. In my experience, us colourblind people tend to just live with whatever is difficult if it's not nearly impossible.

Oh yeah, now I have a question about colo(u)rblind. What items in DROD that are hard to distinguished for colo(u)rblind people? I only found 6 items:

Where are you getting those from? I would be extremely surprised if anyone had difficulty with orbs and bombs, and there were a number of items you didn't list which were stated in this thread. I don't think anyone but a monochromate would have difficulty with guards and (stalwarts/soldiers), and mixing up stalwarts and soldiers is essentially irrelevant.
