icon GatEB Steam: Downloading new holds causes crash (+1)
GatEB Steam 5.1.0.6532, Win10

OK, so I just installed my KDD DLC pack, and noticed a few holds at the bottom of the list that were blue instead of purple. So, I clicked to download them. I've tried this three times now, and every time, when I click 'OK' after the hold install is complete, DROD immediately crashes. When I load it back up, the holds that I just downloaded are still uninstalled.

I don't have KDD installed and the same still happens. Trying to download any hold in the current Steam version crashes the game. Importing a hold file without using the ingame download crashes the same way.

The hold gets added to the installed hold list despite the crash and trying to select it afterwards also results in a crash.

Drod.err has these lines:

1: After starting the game and selecting a player, in main menu
Assertion error in line 1063 of .\DbHolds.cpp: "pPlayer"

2: After trying to select a buggy hold in the Change Location screen
Assertion error in line 2083 of .\DbHolds.cpp: "!"Bad player row.""

I am experiencing the same problem with build 5.1.0.6532 on Windows 8.1.

Not sure if this is relevant or not, but every time I start DROD at the moment, I'm getting the error beep and *five* copies of

Assertion error in line 1063 of .\DbHolds.cpp: "pPlayer"

in my drod.err file.

Thanks for reporting this. My apologies for the trouble. This was a regression impacting hold imports, introduced by the previous demo/player/save import fix.

Fixed in build 6537.

To fix those assertion failures, you will need to delete these recent holds you have imported to play and reimport them.

Is there a way to manually delete the holds from outside the game? Choosing the `problematic' holds within the game crashes it.
I tried deleting local game files via Steam and redownloading the game - did not help.
I tried deleting hold.dat and running the game - also didn't work.

Thanks

Here's a workaround that I found.

Create two empty holds in the editor. Alphabetically one directly before, the other directly after the one you want to delete.

Then you can shift+click the two holds you created and choose to delete everything between them without having to select the one that crashes.

I think this should remove all holds. If it doesn't, it's likely that Steam is restoring the file via cloudsync. But unless you have a ton of broken holds, it's better to use the first method.

It's a bad idea to delete just the hold.dat file. That doesn't work without messing up other data.

Doom's idea is a good workaround.
