In DROD RPG, you can define many wonderful custom variables to track all kinds of mysterious things.

However, doing so undermines your ability to test Level Sets directly from the editor, since there's no way to alter them on the fly. You can add NPCs to set them for you, but that's not exactly flexible, and opens up the potential for problems if you don't remove the NPCs later.

The solution is, of course, to make custom variables accessible from the F4 menu, even if they're only accessible during gameplay.
