Of the two possibilities you mention, keeping it open and reopening it, only the second is possible. Since the large plate toggles the door, you need for there to be absolutely nothing on that plate at the very end of the room. Do you have alpha blending off in your graphics setting by any chance?

×If you have alpha blending on in your graphics settings, the explosion zone of the bombs will be highlighted with lighting. You'll need to kill the rock giants in the highlighted spots. If you don't have alpha blending on it's easy enough to turn on by checking the box in the graphics and sound tab in your settings, or you can just click on each bomb to see what it explodes.

×The golems are symmetrically arranged in each corner. This makes it easy for them to gang up on you from both sides which is not ideal. You may find it helpful to break the symmetry by luring some of them partially but not all the way out in one direction (say to the north.) Once the symmetry is broken, you should be able to lure out one at a time at least a few times.
Also, when you've killed a few golems in good spots, you can use their corpses to block other golems and get around them. Don't hesitate to circle around and get into the corners the golems originated from to lure them back to better spots.
