I'm making my first hold, and I'm looking for an in-depth guide to using the editor (the "Important Threads" post here only talks about design issues, scripting, and mods). I've read the in-game help (KDD and GatEB), but there is a lot that I had to figure out through trial and error. Has anyone written an editor FAQ/guide? We might need one for each version...

I'm looking for things like:
which elements can co-exist on a tile
how many variations of each element (I think secret/broken walls have a separate version for each floor style)
how many layers are there
which elements aren't placed on a layer (I'm guessing checkpoints, and maybe lighting)
what determines the floor style when you break a secret/broken wall (I did figure this one out, but it took forever)
viewing/changing links between orbs/gates/plates (so many times I've accidentally put a trapdoor under the orb or changed the orb type)
modifying complex elements (stairs, level entrances)

Honestly, it would be really great if we could get a wiki specifically for DROD map editing, searchable with sensible links between things, instead of having to dig through seventeen different obscure threads to find how a particular Myscript injection works. Maybe even have a bunch of sample code illustrations of how particular kinds of scripts work, and/or of how to use scripting to perform certain relatively complex behavior.

Another game I played for a while, Creeper World 3, has such a wiki, and it's super helpful for recalling how certain code bits work and how to use them. And I'm sure such a wiki would sensibly contain all the basic info on layers and orb editing controls and whatnot, as well.

There is a DROD wiki that is being worked on by members of the community. It doesn't have much content related to the editor yet though. I think it would be great to add some of this stuff to that wiki.

Now I'm having some problems with demos. I think I've figured out how to embed them in the .hold file and play from the title screen. (Testing this safely is a real pain.)

But the playback is done at the speed I recorded the demo (which makes me look super slow and clumsy) and I would much prefer to have it default to the fast speed I see in the demo management screen. Is there any way to do this?

It's also possible that demo playback is broken in my version of GatEB, but that's a topic for another board.

I was wrong, I still do not understand this.

I know you can have secret walls reveal more than one type of floor in the same room, but it seems that only happens if the secret walls aren't touching each other. AFAICT, secret walls that touch each other always reveal the same floor type, regardless of what floor type was there when you placed them. I'm still trying to figure out how that floor type is chosen.
