I've had the title screen Steam version of RPG experience slowdown a couple of times (this has been present in previous version too) but until now was unable to figure out what was causing it. Note that in general SDL2 is noticeably slower for me than the previous engine but this has been true for every game updating to SDL2 for Steam (it's because my laptop has a crappy integrated graphics chipset and so hates shaders) so I wasn't sure if it was just a part of the general slowdown.

Today I caught the issue: in the news ticker a message is popping up telling me I have unsubmitted scores. but this message has a non-transparent black background and causes slowdown while it is on screen. As soon as the message scrolls off the screen the framerate jumps back to normal.

EDIT: Confirmed present in 1.2.3.98 Steam version. Unable to confirm if present in non-Steam because I don't know how to actually get this message to show up.

Managed to get this to show up in 1.2.3.98 on non-Steam too, by of course just turning off CaravelNet and hitting a score checkpoint, then turning on CaravelNet again.

The slowdown and black background are both present in the non-Steam version too.

Can conform that this is fixed in 1.2.3.152 non-Steam

Unable to check the Steam version as it is still using 1.2.3.148.
