Looking at the game drod.err file would help determine the issue. You can find it in your C:\ProgramData\Caravel\drod-5_0 (Windows) or ~/Library/Application Support/Caravel/drod-5_0/ (Mac) folder.

Sounds a lot like a corrupted save file. Any dev can probably help you with repairing it if that's the case.

Unfortunately, I typically cannot repair the corrupted save files I've seen.

but how to open drod.err?

It's just a text file, you can open it in Notepad.

Incidentally, I'm getting this same error (same line) in Xindaris' First Hold: Invisible Brains: 1N2E. Not quite sure how to reproduce it; it happens on undo sometimes (but not always), and on some (but not all) moves.
