My personal opinion is that the total number of rank points doesn't matter. I couldn't even tell you what my total count is right now. All the rating system does for me is make happy whenever I see that a post of mine got modded up. It's like being given a quarter, or a fun-size Snickers bar. I like it for its inherent simplicity.

Can I also add my comments on this rating system?

1. The posts that have ratings other than zero very often do deserve them.
2. Posts with zero points sometimes do deserves more, but I usually have only 5 or 6 mod points around, so I will not hand them out very often. Besides, many other people have more mod points than I do.
3. I do feel very priviliged when I do get a +1. Because I will know that my post had made someone happy.
4. I don't really care about my rating. If possible, I would like to be able to hide one's rating and rank if he or she reaches 50 (or 100) points.

I don't need a status. If having a rank or status means that everyone in this community is going to fight over why someone is having more points than others, instead of trying to be helpful to others, then I do think we should stop this madness.

With Matt, Oneiro and Erik starting to do goofy things with their ratings...can we humble forum users start doing something like that as well? Adding characters to the end of them and such?
