I guess I'd like a tip about how to complete this challenge. I'm not close to 60 turns.

Clearing means to kill the last monster before move 60.

The biggest secret to this one is that if you run around the NE tar blob, you will inevitably waste time dealing with tar babies. Try cutting through the corner of the blob instead.
