There are several places in the bulletin board system that insert extra whitespace before rendering out to the browser. The most egregious are:

A. end of user message text has a gap of three lines before the hline separating the signature.
(no workaround)

B. extra line after using the embedded quote block.
(workaround is to run your next text up against the quote block)
