I have no problem getting Beethro or a mimic to move two rows in a single turn, but so far I haven't figured out how to extend that to three rows, or what the purpose of the powder keg is. What's the trick here?

This one is rough. Progressive hints below. Reading them all will pretty much solve the room.

I'm trying to follow the hints, but now my problem is figuring out how to get everything into position prior to the last moves before activating the pressure plates.

what's the positioning of the mimics? i got the positioning for the first down, which pushes beethro to the space between the pressure plates, but can't figure out where to put second mimic in order to push beethro again

My problem is much more basic than everyone else's: how do I get in here? I can enter from the east but it is blocked off and I can't find anything crumbly to break to enter the part that the puzzle actually is in.

I must be blind. I'm working from this configuration but cannot see which 3-moves combination will put Beethro in the right place. I should add that the mimics correspond to the numbers, which is hopefully the right way to do it.

I worked hard at the above instructions and managed to place the mimics as in cchittleborough's picture, but after much struggling I discovered that there are typos there which may leave others banging their heads off the same brick wall as I was.

(I want to place on record my gratitude to Nuntar for working out what was wrong - without his generous help in Chat the wall would have a great many more dents in it - as would my head!)

Thanks Elfstone for the correction: that helped a lot.

I found this solution completely amazing, and have a question about it: here it is in action.

My question is: does 3 represent the limit, or is a 4 push possible?

Since only 3 characters move during a turn, it's impossible.

I phrased this badly: I didn't mean in this room, although this room inspired the question.

"Could an architect devise a room such that a 4-push is possible?"

If there were an extra mimic, for example, could that work? I'm wondering about a scheme where mimics could be trapped in corridor by doors, something like that.

Remember that room with the seven temporal clones all converging on a snake for a 7-kill? What if you could set up a push sequence with many clones co-operating?

Perhaps you missed the attachment for my post. It's pretty easy to set up something that pushes quite far in one turn. There is probably a theoretical limit, but it's probably quite high if timeclones are allowed.

A bunch of preplaced mimics with staves can easily allow you to move 300+ turns in a single turn.

Ack, I'm so sorry I did miss it. I thought the *this* in your post referred to the post above.

Thank you, rj, the attached hold is fantastic: a diagonal line of stick-equipped mimics is able to push Beethro N squares in one move! It looks like the only limit is room size.

I found I could move the whole chain around, and push
Beethro again with it: cool possibilities.

I experimented with decoys and sticks and now see more how this
works. You can move a whole row of decoys at once if they are set up stick to tail, and that mechanism is how the "energy" from many mimics all moving at once can be channeled into Beethro.

This is still amazing to me.

Regarding the infinite chains of moves, I actually bug reported something similar ages ago, but obviously this particular behavior isn't considered buggy at this point. :)
