Hi, I am a mage an I have two problems. How do I get into the town gate at night being a mage without climbing skills and how do I get more food as a mage. I only found the plant a screen below the town where the game starts.

I cannot figure out how to get animal meat. Thanks

Exiting a town as a sorceress without the climbing skill calls for a particular spell, I believe, which you should get after entering Svartalfheim.

As to food, you should be able to get meat by killing vargs.

I believe that you can also fish, once you have a net and you find a suitable spot. I'm not sure of whether this requires the Animal Ken skill, or whether the Bless spell helps.

Finally, you might be able to set a trap for rabbits, although this may call for the Animal Ken skill.

Don't forget to cook your food!

Fortunally you can get food looting enemies:apples from bandits and meat from giants.
You can buy apples at the woman in willage (5 silver per apple, you can bargain).
You can catch fish: 2 fishes a day.

...
Varg seems the best source for meal ...
better buy sharp object too ...
(sword, dagger, Golden Sword, etc) can be used to have some meat ...
for more trick, save before you skin them ...
load if you get bad amount of meat ...
(applicable for most enemy, if you don't get desired loot, just load before you search it)
this trick also work in old QFG series ... :P

Yeah, a good tip for literally every adventurer is "Have a knife or something to cut with". Vargs are a renewable source of food. I didn't find that out until much later.

You also get those rations as soon as you accept the Jarl's quest, which should tide you over for a while as well.

If you save the dude in the forest (the one the map leads you to after you have a vision), he'll feed you for free. So you have an infinitely renewable source of food there.

So animal ken is only required for getting pelts from vargs, not meat?

Correct. If you have a way to cut it out, you do not need Animal Ken to get meat.

The same happened when I played as sorceress. When I came to his rescue I couldn't carry or drag him as I wasn't strong enough. Obviously no problem when I was a warrior. So next time I'd make sure I have increased my strength sufficiently by the time I come to the rescue.

I'm not sure how strong one has to be to drag him, but I've found at least one other occasion when stregth mattered to solve a task.

If you're a sorceress, you don't need strength for any puzzles. Think about what magic you have to use :)

Clever one! I think I'd have to restart my sorceress (perhaps finish with the warrior first) and learn from a few mistakes. For instance; I'd gotten to Act 2 before I learned the Flame Shield spell (would you believe that?!)as I presumed I had to pay to learn it.
