and one of enemy also drop it (this item is stackable) ...
(I think it's Brigand or something)

Yeah, the undeads drop pickaxes and tinderboxes all the time, and like that other poster said you can trade another mundane tool to get your old pickaxe back.

Early on when you only have one of each, you can just keep trading like that to rotate which one you are missing. Once you get a duplicate you can hand that over and you're all set.
