So I go back to the guild after the girl has gone missing - thinking you know that they will have information? And the game tells me I cheated and kills me. Is that supposed to happen?

No, the game intended for you to find the guild in Ch1/2 (before Svartalfheim). It will be fixed in v1.1.

You don't need to go back to the guild if you're a warrior or sorceress; you're meant to be locked out of there by Ch3.
