Is there any way to reunite the swan with her, human family?
I feel very bad for depriving them of their wife and mother...

Talk to Volund and you will see. Or walk into his workshop.

Ah, I see! Thank you!
As I have tried several ways to, either catch the swan, or talking to her, but to no avail, I suppose that there might not be a way to bring her back to human form?
I play as a warrior...

She doesn't want to lose her wings (and freedom) again :) Got to have some empathy for her situation that while she was in town she was feeling stuck and couldn't be her true self.

but poor Heime, abandoned by his mother. (that cry really pulled some heartstrings)

It does fit with the myths, but does seem a bit out of character considering her reaction to Heime going missing.

then again that was before she got her freedom back. I'm in two minds on the whole thing.

So, let me get this straight. She gets upset over her son disappearing, yet she's perfectly willing to disappear on him and his father forever, all because her *precious freedom* is more important to her than a loving family? Hypocrisy much, lady?

She doesn’t disappear completely; she can be seen again near the lake and twice in the ending sequence, so she hasn't abandoned them entirely. Also, Volund seems to be concocting a plan for him and his son to spend more time with her...

Regarding the disappearance of her son, he had been forcibly kidnapped by a violent antagonist who had a track record of harming people. She was healthy and free while her son was in fear of his life.

It's still a crappy situation; No matter what happens, it's impossible for everyone to get a happy ending. I guess it's a matter of deciding which sad endings is the most bearable. :(

Anybody else thing the long look at the crate might indicate feelings of guilt?

It'd be nice if you could tell her son where she is, so he could visit (hopefully carefully, wouldn't want to have to rescue the lad again).

also Volund mentions a ring, I haven't checked whether this can be used to convince her to come back.

if I could I'd tell her of the hiding spot in the guild, she can hide her wings there so she can get them when she chooses and stay with the family - yeah messes with the myth but happy ending.

of course that scene at the end mentioned somewhere around indicates something less sad too.

Ultimately, while the hero/heroine wants to be able to help everyone, it isn't always possible, particularly when it comes to getting involved with people's private lives.

Anyway, is it the right thing to do? Maybe, maybe not. Either way, the game does provide you with some closure.

...
remember, the kid eventually will become a hero too ...
so it would be nice if we think someday he will find his mother at his own tale of adventure ...

A child getting kidnapped by a troll and having to be rescued is not the same as an adult getting their freedom back and leaving of their own free will.

It's also the typical ending to stories like this. Look at some of the tales about Selkies.
