Is there any way to rescue Heime without having to fight the dark elf guarding him? I don't have the shadow spell.

I actually tried the Shadow spell, and it didn't work. ^^;

I'm not sure that the way I've solved this is the proper Sorceress way, since I've picked Fast Talk at character creation. But what I did was to go to Skrymir's house and pick up the shiny object very obviously lying in the middle of the room. That got me caught, and put into the cage with Heime. Then I've persuaded Skrymir that he didn't need to guard the cage, and when he left, I've used Dart on the shining purple crystal.

But like I said, I feel like this is the Thief solution. I haven't yet found a proper Sorceress way (like I said, Shadow spell didn't work in my case).

Yeah, I used fast talk when I played as a rogue. But as a mage I don't have that and I can't use magic in the cage.

You need to level spells.

You can just out and out fight him.

If you don't want to fight him, you can just go somewhere and spam Shadow for a bit until you think it's a safe enough level to use.

Since I don't have shadow and can't get shadow since it won't let me leave the dark elf world, I guess I just have to load an old save game.

Yeah, you'd only have to load to get that spell if you want to avoid the fight. There's nothing really wrong with fighting though

I think it's worth noting that that mindset will screw you over during the required fights, ESPECIALLY in the fight against...


A sorceress doesn't always avoid fights, she just approaches them from a magical perspective. Not to mention that a magic staff does hurt quite a bit if you smack someone upside the head with it.

Same with being a Rogue, actually. You can avoid fights as well as anyone, but you still need to be able to fight to succeed.

This IS the land of the vikings, after all, where only those who die in combat get to go to the grand mead halls of Valhalla. Avoiding all combat strikes me as a bit problematic

Actually it is meant to be possible to avoid all fighting as a rogue. I haven't checked myself, but it should work.

By the way, there's a certain potion you can get in two places in the game that can greatly help with mandatory combats.

Just run from him. Cast shadow if you have magic, that'll make it easier.

I don't cross-class my first time through with a class.

I guess I could run, but the game seems to be hinting I shouldn't be entering combat at all.

Also, I've jumped over that chasm using Acrobatics (very hard, have to be in just the right spot) and Fafnir just glitchily walks through it.

Also, what's the honorable method of dealing with Fafnir?

Well, if mythology is any indications, the honorable method would be fighting and killing him (he did murder his father, after all). Then again, if mythology is any indication, Regin would have tried to kill you afterwards, and he doesn't.

As a compliment, "There's a funny sequence involving <literally anyone>" is the vaguest hint in the world because everyone has funny sequences. The writers knocked this out of the park.



edit: regarding the OP, I searched up and down and everywhere trying to figure out how to get Heime. I didn't have Shadow. Ended up turning the game speed to the lowest possible setting and fighting the guy, looking it up afterward. That dude hits like a truck.

Yeah, if you didn't have shadow (and are a sorceress), you'd have to fight.

It's actually possible to do without adjusting the difficulty setting, you just need to be really careful whenever he's attacking (that is, avoid every attack).

As for Fafnir, I was being very vague because it's more fun for people to discover things for themselves But sense of humour might differ, so some people might not find it THAT funny (hence I said 'slightly' funny). Anyway, try and think about what Fafnir loves most and see if there's a way to use that to get him off your back.

HMMM, okay. I'll play around with it.

As of now the methods for dealing with him that I've tried are
-Killing him (obviously unsatisfactory for a rogue.)
-Giving him the chest & stealing it back (eh, ok, &probably how the thief is meant to do it.)
-And running away until ......? You lose him in the caverns? And he seems to never turn up again? So you wonder if every lindworm you fight was actually him once? Actually, I haven't figured out if there's more to that one or not. Like, if you had to make him chase you to a specific cavern or any other number of unlikely things I totally lack the patience to experiment with anyway.

However, that still doesn't solve what becomes of him if you make him chase you across the chasm and then eventually shake him off your tail and you can't find him again. I'd still like to think he gives up and reassesses his life and settles down with some nice lady(?) lindworm.

It happened to me, too XD I went to go to the lower exit and my Rogue mis-stepped and fell in, too.
