Well clearly all the guards have to die. That's a bit of a simple way to put it. Now you may have figured this out but,Now this is the trickier part that you may not have figured out.

Sorry, I should have been a bit more precise in the brain's dialogue:

This room is kind of like "The Incredible Machine" or similiar games; you will have to do some preperations before you can actually play it. On the right side of the room, you see a couple of game elements that can be placed anywhere inside the guard areas as well as an arrow indicating which one will be placed next. Once you're inside one the four guard areas, you can use the special command key to "place" an element (i. e. set a building marker) on the tile you're currently standing on (the aumtlich will be facing in the direction you are). Once everything is set up, press the pressure plate and wait for the builders to do their job. Afterwards, if you've placed everything correctly, you can solve the room like any other.

EDIT post collision.
To place stuff you use the cmd key. For that you either assign a key or you hit the button on the upper left side of the screen somewhere. From there I think it's not too hard to figure out what happens once you place everything.

That's a good question, and frankly I've never understood why guards would do what they do in this scenario, but it's necessary.
