Gunthro CDs printed and shipping

At long last, we've received the limited-edition CD print run for "DROD: Gunthro and the Epic Blunder"! As mentioned on the forum, everyone who contributed to developing or testing the game is receiving one. Also, everyone who pre-ordered a CD will receive their copy. These ship out next week. If you have updated your shipping address, please let me know so your CD doesn't go to some guy who's never heard of DROD. Though I don't mind getting the word out, there are more efficient ways to do it.

DROD on Desura

"DROD: Gunthro and the Epic Blunder" and "DROD: The City Beneath" are now available for purchase on Desura. If you're happy to see the games on there, please go and vote on the games or write up a glowing review!

Also, everyone who purchased Gunthro on the IndieGameStand promotion in December may log in to their IGS account and receive a Desura key for the game (as long as you meet their requirements).

DROD History Month

We've concluded another official contest on the Caravel Forum, hosted by forum member Pearls. Contributors designed a hold with areas that effectively capture the feel and flavor of each of the four major DROD titles. There were a lot of great entries submitted. Congratulations to Lucky Luc for the winning entry! Please claim a Prize from the Prize Pile. And congrats to Chaco, BoyBlue and D.Craven_0ne for placing with similarly noteworthy submissions. And a big thank you to Pearls from everyone for taking Schik up on his dare and graciously hosting this epic contest.

"DROD: The Second Sky" reaches a third

According to the Bar, we're officially over one-third done with the final chapter of Beethro's story. Since the last Illumination, we've developed even more new levels and game features, including more puzzle elements, scripting capabilities, and additional hold design features and graphical improvements.

Especially noteworthy is the addition of Aleksander Kowalczyk to the Caravel team as artist and illustrator. Aleks is a friend of Skell, and he's joined up to create some beautiful new art for TSS and provide an added level of polish to the pre-existing game art. Aleks constantly exceeds my expectations with the fantastic work he does, and I think you'll all be pleased with his contributions when you see it. We're working on putting together some in-game material to show off publicly in the near future that will feature some of his work. Meanwhile, I'd like to share with you the new TSS title logo that Aleks recently designed:

(For those receiving this via e-mail, if you don't see it here, please come see it on the Caravel Forum at http://forum.caravelgames.com/viewboard.php?BoardID=10 )

Until next time, happy DRODing!

Huhm... was curious, and looked back over previous Illuminations... and we've not had a New Holds Released list for over a year. (Tim did post a quick update in April's Illumination thread, but that wasn't part of the e-mail.)

No idea if we still want to attempt to continue the tradition or not, but eh, let's go with an updated list right here and we can figure out something for next Illumination, whenever that shall be.

New holds released

A year's worth of DROD holds since GatEB's release. Quite a variety too, from both old and new architects. Nothing from DROD RPG in this time... Washed Ashore is still the most recent one from late 2010.

The "DROD" part of the logo is fantastic, however I think there may be a better font for the subtitle.

I was thinking about saying something about that too. I really like the DROD part, and the sky leaking in from the bottom is brilliant, I "got" that right away. Admittedly I don't have the context of the game but the subtitle does look too much like Comic Sans to me. First impression was that the game was supposed to be playful and goofy. Maybe it is?

I agree, the top logo is awesome, the bottom font should be changed.

I like how we have this amazing logo up top

and then at the bottom it's like suddenly Comic Sans with a tophat.

Hello everybody!

Guess it's a good time to post outside the dev forum. ;)

I'm Aleksander Kowalczyk (Alex for short) and I'm working on art for this project. It's very nice to be a part of the team and one of the builders of the DROD world, I'm having a lot of fun so far!

I've heard that the DROD community is very creative and supportive, it's an honor to meet you guys. :)

As for the font issue, I've picked it up for the sky theme because of it's roundness, but seems that the similarity to Comic Sans is a lot less subtle that I thought. I've got a solution, though:

It's still nice and round yet more serious and it's a font already used in DROD :) So I think it's a win-win-win situation, but I'd like to hear your opinion!

Also, I find the readability of the logo in the first post difficult because of the light colour of the background. The second is much preferable (aside from the font change) because of the darker colour surrounding it. My welcome-or-not two cents would be to either include a background with the logo, or only use it in darker settings.

I really don't have a problem with the first font, but I agree that readability is difficult on a light background. Looks good! I am (un)reasonably excited!

It is superior. Only thing I could possibly think of is maybe trying to make light leak a little out of the logo. I have no idea if that would look /good/ or not, and I really really really don't want to be one of those clients so I guess it's fine.

Edit: mfw you already did the thing i asked and I have short-term amnesia :(

Have you considered superimposing Impact on a picture of a roach? That might work.

The second Second Sky font really looks so much better. When I saw the first font I thought: Simple Comic Sans and light blue letters? Could fit perfectly on some Christian personal homepage. The second font, although still very round and cloudy, has some dirty edges that fit much better the darker theme of DROD. And still it's light and friendly to show the Sky theme. I really like it :thumbsup

Why do they hate my voice? It *does* sound like a good power for me to have.

Also, I got GatEB disc today. I was moved. A nice souvenir, to be sure.
