Personally, I absolutely hate it when web sites play music.

If I don't have the right plugin installed, it harasses me every time I visit to install the thing.

If I do have it installed, it comes in over any music I might be listening to at the time, or it might start blaring if I didn't turn my speakers down last time I was done listening to something.

If and when you re-do the site, please consider not having the music.

What's wrong with installing a silly little Quicktime plugin one time? It doesn't even bug you to register or anything. What is the exact message it gives you?

And personally, I always make sure I turn my speakers back down after listening to loud stuff, to avoid just such a situation, but it's possible to forget.

What's wrong with installing a quicktime plug-in? Nothing as such. But it should be my decision what I install on my computer, not the decision of DRoD's webmasters. Why should I be forced to install something just so that I could visit their site without harrasment?

Also, I often am using my computer speakers to hear other music, of my own choice, at the time I'm browsing. Which means that A - I can't turn the speakers off/down, and B - my favourite songs get interrupted by DRoD music for no reason.

Anyway, I'm glad that finally someone other than me is complaining about this.

At the very least, the default should be "off" instead of "on", and cookies can then save the "on" state instead of the "off" state.

Nowadays, the only computer games whose music I listen to are the ones where it can't be turned off...I am almost always listening to my other music when I am playing a game, even DROD.

That's odd...the default is off. Whenever I visit the site, it never plays unless I hit the play button. You can even check the source. The exact line is:

<EMBED Src="../files/tune.mid" Autostart="false" Loop="false" Width="129" Height="20">

Does anyone else have it automatically start when they visit the website?

The default is off for me as well (on any of the four computers I normally use). But, since two of those computers don't have quicktime at all, that's besides the point - I'm still pestered to download the plug-in whenever I access the site, which I really don't want to do on those computers.

When Clayton Turned the music to default off it was a big improvement on the previous situation, but that doesn't change the fact that it should be removed completely.

I didn't realize that, if you didn't have quicktime, it would prompt you to download it despite the fact it's off. Does anyone know if there's a way around this? If not, I'll just remove the music entirely.

Even better, maybe I'll make two sidebars. The default one that comes up won't have any music, but it'll have an option to display the music. That'll bring up a new sidebar with the music on the bottom. What do you guys think about that?

Does anyone really like listening to the music when they browse the site? I'm inclined to take the thing off entirely. Maybe we should do a poll.

Personally I dislike having web sites play any sort of sound. I like to have MP3s playing when just browsing and music on a site is very annoying.

During my recent trip to Providence, I discovered one more reason to remove the music from the site (I forgot the exact URL for the forum so I had to go through the front page to check it) - it takes forever for the front page to load on older computers.

Well, the music problem is fixed as of a couple hours ago.
