I assume that I have to trigger the pressure plate with the tar. But I'm stuck at the very last part. I can't get the tar mother to grow on to the oremite because it produces a tar baby instead, and I can't get the babies to move to the right. I don't have any extra mirrors to work with. I'm sure I'm missing something obvious, but I can't figure out what to do.

Do I have to do that special killing at exactly the right time, too?

Or you could just get lucky.

I didn't have to do anything special for the baby on the right... fairly early on in the level, I fluked into having three "stalwarts" in positions where they kept the skippers perfectly in check (this room is chaotic so don't count on repeating it... I just kept hitting the horns early on and it happened, and then I didn't dare touch one in case that would screw up the positions -- (12, 23), (15, 23), and (26,23)). When the baby showed up, it was easily taken care of by the far right guy, but it also pulled all three of them out of position, which a few spawns later lead to all of their deaths.

A completely unrelated issue: After beating the room, there's the ending sequence, and the ending says "And as for Petri...well..." Is there supposed to be more?

I suspect the implication may be that he was just one of the waves of anonymous guards summoned to die in the final battle.

Either that or they intended to have him show up again in another adventure, but never got around to it.
