So, my mother just won an Xbox. And she's giving it to me during October.

I should be able to afford around five Xbox games by that point. Problem is, apart from Halo and Amped, I don't know what to get. (The system came with Project Gotham Racing 2, which I wanted anyway, mostly because I reckon I can break the kudos system the game uses.) And even Halo's a bit iffy, because I don't plan on playing it multiplayer. I might have to hire it or get it used or something, but, long story, I won't have any method of hiring during the month of October.

So, I appeal to the DROD forum-goers: Which Xbox games should I check out? I don't really follow Xbox.

(I have Morrowind for PC, and may budget for a new graphics card so I can actually play it. I also plan on getting a PS2, so any games which are more at home on PS2 I'll get there. I'm not getting Soul Caliber II because I want Link, dammit. I'm not fussy about games at all, so long as they're good.)

Any games that'll come out before October in Europe are fair game.

Matt

I personally recommend the MechAssault series, NFS-Underground, ESPN Football 2004, GTA Double Pack(Includes GTA3 & GTA:VC), and probably Halo. That'll end you up with a well-rounded collection that'll have a variety of genres.

Or, of course, you could buy some new hardware for your PC and play some REAL games. Of course, I'm a bit PC game biased. :)

I think you should get a development pack from Microsoft and port DROD to the XBox. Then you can buy it and you'll not only have one of the best games ever made for your console, but you'll get to support yourself with your own purchase! w00t!

Patrick, that would be a mild form of copyright infringement, so please don't make offers like this on DROD.net.

I always wondered how fun it would be to play DROD on a controller. Maybe in the version after JtRH they should try to include support for gamepads as well. That'd be fun.

Fable's coming out pretty soon, and that sounds like an awesome game. Google it for some previews to see what I mean.

DiMono you do realize that the development kit costs in excess of $10K and not only that but even with enough money Microsoft wouldn't sell it to him? You have to have so proven ability to produce a game before they will sell it.

Yep, that was my "wishful thinking, but wouldn't it be cool?" moment of the day. On the other hand, if you CAN somehow raise the funds and convince them that DROD is as good as we all know it is, why not do it? Maybe you could pitch DROD to the fine people at Microsoft, and if they agree on the potential you could run a fundraiser among we the fans.

And then we all become Venture Capitalists :D

One game that is not well known is Kelly Slater Pro Surfer. I also like Soul Caliber 2, Prince Of Persia-Sands Of Time, and Conflict-Desert Storm 2.

I second the Prince of Persia. That's a great game.

One of my fav games is True Crime: Streets of L.A. I also reccomend, as did gamer extreme, the Grand Theft Auto double pak, Red Dead Revolver, Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six 3, or Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance.

One that i would avoid is Syberia.

Shenmue II is fun at times, and so-so at others. If i were u, i MIGHT consider renting it.

GTA Double Pack, no. Vice City, yes. I don't see the point of buying a game I already own.

I've got the NGC Prince of Persia (which was pretty fun).

Re: DROD on the Xbox, we'd have to make a 3D version to get it past the Microsoft boys.

Keep 'em comin', guys.

I'd recommend Deus Ex: Invisible War if you don't have it on the PC. All the choices give it loads of replay value.

If you enjoy mindless killing games, try Hunter: The Reckoning too. It's got destruction spells, rocket launchers and zombies and stuff. Great game :)

Um, Matt...GTA Double Pack is the only way you can get Vice City for XBOX. It was a deal that Rockstar did to give XBOX owners their first chance to buy a GTA game for their console. It's either both or not at all...

DROD3D wasn't as good as we all would have liked... the engine wasn't designed to do the things it maybe should have done... I'm not gonna rant. Some modelling and predefined animations to show Beethro and the monsters actually walk or fly to their next spot would do well, and some cutscenes for going down the stairs... I think there's potential, but it's a lot of work.
