I used to play a certain adventure/war game on my first computer and loved it quite a lot. It was in the eighties and my computer had a whopping 48KB of memory. That's 48 kilobytes, which is less than some people's avatar images on this board these days. They could squeeze a whole game into space like that back in the day, because they had to :)

The game I am remembering fondly is Lords of Midnight. A guy called Chris Wild wrote a PC version of the game and also ported its sequel, Doomdark's Revenge, to run on PC computers. Recently, the original author of the game, Mike Singleton, contacted him and suggested they work on a new version for modern platforms such as smartphones.

You can read about this in Chris Wild's blog.

Chris Wild updates his blog rather sporadically, it seems. It turns out there is a forum where he hangs out and occasionally posts into about the development process. I only found out about this today, so I made a new post to bump the topic. I am not going to bump it again, unless there are really momentous news.

The other parts of the forum are about a multi-user version of the game you can play on-line, which might interest some of you old-time LoM fans too :)

I promised not to follow up on this post unless there are momentous news, and sadly I found out today that there are. Mike Singleton, the author of the original games, passed away last month.

His illness had been one of the factors slowing down the remake for some time, and now Chris Wild has to decide whether to finish the project on his own (or if he even can finish it). There are some musings about this in his blog.

Here are two posts from Chris's blog in memory of Mike Singleton:

RIP Mike.
