If you make funny/insightful/useful posts, then people will rate your posts up (see the number next to each post), which will increase the number of rank points you have.

When you reach certain milestones, you get a higher rank. For example, you will become a Goblin when you get 15 rank points.

Oh, and you created 2 topics by accident, you might want to delete the other one.

Also, as you play various holds, if you have a CaravelNet subscription, your scores (number of moves for rooms in a hold) will get posted and you'll have an overall rank (There is a high scores link at the top of the page). So you might consider trying to beat some people there.
