I would love to make a turn-based tile-based puzzle game like DROD.
I'm fluent in C# and XNA, and I'm pretty sure I can do it, but every time I try to concentrate and think about a solid engine that is easy to expand and modify, I always encounter too many problems.

I'm asking if someone who knows C++ well will kindly tell me how the DROD engine briefly works.

I don't care about rendering and such, I can handle that, I just want to know how the "game logic" works, the monsters, the items, etc.

I doubt that anyone would like to spend the next three months explaining the source code to you. (On the other hand, I could write a book about it. Perhaps I should do that.)

Since you said that you are fluent in C# and XNA, I doubt that you can do it.

But anyway, if you still want to try, here are two links to get you started:

Great, the second thread has source code, I can study that :)

Thanks.

I can say for certain that the DROD engine is not easy to modify and expand. And never-ending list of game logic bugs is a confirmation to this.

But for me, the worst part of writing DROD-like game is drawing all the tiles.
