Stuck here too.

I've tried leaving the lone goblin in his room while I go kill gel, but he moves across the force arrows when the mother dies. I can step onto the plate so the 3x1 door remains closed, but there doesn't seem to be a way of leaving a monster there.

Can't let the goblin out, or the gel becomes inaccessible. If there were a way to keep the gel from becoming unclearable from the left side, then this wouldn't be such a problem.

What's the missing insight?

Judging by highscores for this room and by scroll in it, there're at least two ways of solving this room.

My way was



EDIT: After downloading one of 1000+ move demos from caravel net, I can tell what the other way is.



This way doesn't require efficiency, but is *much* longer

I used a still more inefficient way of solving this room.

I grew the gel until it filled the north (horizontal) part of the "L"-shaped chamber. But I made sure to leave some gel babies in the northwest corner, in such a way that when I went over there I would be able to start cutting gel.

Once the gel filled the north part of the chamber, I manouevred so that a large number of gel babies spawned and filled the east part of the chamber, and so that the gel grew around those babies to form a cuttable shape. (This took a few tries to get right.)

With the "L"-shaped chamber full of gel and gel babies, the gel babies were standing on the pressure plate. I killed the goblin, made my way to the northwest corner of the room and first cleared the gel out, then took care of the remaining goblins.

I don't get this room at all. I can release the goblin from 13,13 but then I'm locked out of the main chamber. There doesn't seem to be any way to prevent that.
