Akandia hyperme
Entry 1: Akandia
This is a joke
What better to represent a constantly blissful country than a big smile and bright, primary clours? Nothing.
Glothorred Rheb
The flag of Glorthorred.
The blue color represents the Welmish Ocean and the great ports and trade of Glorthorred. The green color, along with the orb and its bolts, represent the future, advancement and the great engineering the Glorthorrians are so very proud of.
Oyst brian_s
This flag is for Oyst. The green background and black stripe represent the two highlands and the chasm between them. The star represents the ruling capitol in eastern Oyst.
Oyst Znirk
The Twin Kingdoms of Oyst.
Two fertile slopes under a blue sky, divided by the perpetually dark lowlands. The horizontal line stands not only for the connecting bridge but also for its immense value to the entire kingdom. This is why the horizontal line on the flag (unlike the physical bridge) is golden and goes beyond just spanning the interoystean lowlands.
The bridge is combined with a stylized Royal Asteriskus, the traditional symbol of the king's right to rule. Royal power, like the bridge, is of great value to the country and extends all the way across Oyst; and unlike the bridge it extends at least a short way into the skies above and the abyss between.
Akandia Jeff_Ray...
Akandia (blue bg with palmtree and skull) : This flag represents the fact that behind the charming invitation of the continent, lies imminent death. It wouldn't quite attract visitors there, though.
Clarbag eb0ny
Flag of Clarbag.
Oyst eb0ny
Flag of Oyst 2.0.
Sun Island Jutt
Flag for Sun Island
The flag depicts two of the few things known to exist on Sun Island. The first is the sun itself, visible as half of a 12-pointed star, which is placed agains a blue background representing the surrounding oceans and skies. The other is the fegundo, placed right on top of the sun, depicting its last flight into the heart of the sun.
And indeed it seems that sun island is uninhabited, which makes it somewhat unlikely to have a flag.
On the other hand I bet there have been at least a few explorers who have visited the island—or claim so—and planted a flag there to claim the territory.
Clarbag Bombadil
This is my proposal for Clarbag's flag.
The background of the flag depicts a huge equal sign, representing the equality between all its inhabitants. The simple outline of a tree represents their love for everything earthly and natural (and their simple humble homes).
Mellenfral brian_s
This flag is for the city of Mellenfral. The design goes against the recommended priciples of flag design, but represents a common practice of a city or state just slapping an official seal or emblem on a background and calling it a flag.
Clarbag Noma
Clarbag: land of flood, land of blood.
The trees of Clarbag provide homes for its citizens and the sword of the Kingtaker keeps them free of monarchs, so both are represented on the flag. The red borders represent the blood shed in the many invasions and the blue field represents the Onsuary Floods.
Clarbag The Architest
I could not do any better (I could) but I got jaw-ache. It really annoys me.
This is Clarbag. It shows the main kingdom, and The Tomb of Nomb.
Lack of colors, but I had to do some black & white!
Argh!
Barcano band of Rasuran pirates DanielFishman
This is the flag of the Barcano band of Rasuran pirates.
The most obvious feature is the colours: red and black, colours which represent blood, fighting and death - something that may well come to you if you see the Barcano flag on an approaching ship.
But the symbolism goes further than that. The Barcano pirates operate particularly along the Whittled River, the main trade route between the northern and southern halves of the Eighth. The diagonal stripe of red represents the river, the life-blood (hence red) of the community. Furthermore, traders wishing to pass through Rasarus are given two choices - follow the river, and quite possibly be killed (red), or venture out into the darkness that is the Smuggler's Maze (black).

The flag is a flowing pink flag with a black outline to make it more visible from a distance. Look closely and you can make out the distinct colors that are the royal colors of the Dugan family, pink, dark pink and light pink. No one else in the Kingdom is allowed to use these colors on any of their coorespondence or official communication, it is reserved for the king only.
In the center of the flag can be found the royal crest which you can see is made up of a checkerboard design with a distinct hero symbol in the center and two colored bars, one on the right which is dark pink and one on the left which is light pink , The Dugan family crest reflects the creation event that started this world.
According to family history, a members of the Dugan royal bloodline was among the very first settler. The symbol in the center of the crest reflected the high position in the community that was held by this renown Dugan family member. While over the years the true meaning of this symbol has been lost, it is assumed to symbolize royalty, or leadership. Look closely, what does it say to you?
Akandia Mikko
This is a flag for Akandia.
In the centre is a traditional Akandian flower, representing the beautiful nature found all over the place. It is surrounded by yellow, which represents the sunlight.
The rooted empire hyperme
Entry 2: The Rooted Empire
There was no rule against this. Te contest said a country, not a surface country. The book is the empire, the dark backgroud is the unknown and the brown lines are the Empires reach.
Eastern Ephelna Znirk
The City-State of Clot-upon-Tar-Plains (Eastern Ephelna)
Green wedges are something of a commonplace in Eighth flags, for a simple reason: they represent the vitally important and somewhat rare mountains that are high enough to keep your feet dry during Onsuary, yet non-rocky enough to grow food on.
The flag of Clot is given here as a representative of a very common flag design: a green mountain slope under a blue sky, with the remaining space used to point out a distinctive feature of the country using the flag. In the case of Clot, the four horizontal bars indicate the seasonal alternation of lowlands where you can't go because of the tar (black) and lowlands where you can't go because of the silty muddy floodwater (brown, or orange on brand-new flags where the dye hasn't yet begun to decay).
As a rule, the Clottenes are highly patriotic. On average, each household owns 2.8 flags -- at least one to fly at the slightest provocation, and a spare for when the other one needs laundering or patching. Among the well-off Clottene classes, a collection of flags made from all sorts of precious imported materials is a major status symbol.
Tueno Dex Stewart
Here's my flag of Tueno.
I concentrated mainly on Tueno's reputation as the most elite military force in the Eighth. On the flag you can see a shield, yellow, the same colour as the Stalwarts combat attire. Also, an eighth of a circle, representing the Eighth and Tueno as a protector of the Eighth. The background is sky blue, symbolising peace, representing the fact that, even with such a great military power, the Tuenans goal is peace.
Oyst Techant
This flag flies high over Oyst and was created when the island became one kingdom. While it too was thrown together rather quickly it still has its own symbolic meaning. The symbols represent the joining of the two kingdoms and the colors represent the safe areas of the island.
