I have no idea what the Grand Event is, but I can imagine my idea of it quite clearly. I don't want to mess up an already laid-out concept of what the Grand Event is, so tell me:

Do we know what The Grand Event is? And if so, what is it?

No, the Grand Event is not tied directly to the Mothingness.

Is it tied to fractions?

On the other hand, I might want to stop prodding Mrimer into giving me the truth behind the Grand Event and make a forum game out of it!

Could the Grand Event be related to the Great Event, the Spectacular Event, or even the I-Thought-It-Was-Good-But-Noone-Else-Did-Maybe-I-Have-Weird-Tastes-But-It-Was-Still-Excellent Event?

Yep. The fact that The Eighth is... just an eighth and not a whole.

Well, the event does/will take place in the Eighth, but, no, it doesn't have anything specifically to do with the Eighth being an Eighth.

Then what is the point of the Grand Event? Does it coincide with The Great Removal?

Also, have you thought up what the Grand Event was yet or is it still in planning?

Yes, the Grand Event is well-known to certain groups in and out of the Eighth. I won't speak on what its "point" is.

I'll stop prodding you after this.

What kind of state will the Eighth be in after both the Great Removal and the Grand Event occurs? Just a vague hint, not specifics.

And robots.

Okay, you'll stop prodding if I give a vague hint, eh? All right. The Eighth will be mostly the same, but also quite different in certain critical ways, after the Grand Event. And, no, no one is going to eat a slice of cherry pie.

Ehh...and Beethro did a pretty good job of hindering the Great Removal. Or, at least, the way 1st Archivist wanted it to be carried out.

I got it!
Mattcrampy wrote a while back:
TCB Spoilers: At the end of the game, it's revealed the entire trilogy takes place in the mind of an autistic boy staring into his dessert.
Of course, replace "TCB" with "TSS", generalize "trilogy" to just "series", and assume either A) the dessert is not cherry pie, B) the dessert will not be eaten, or C) the child's name is "no, no one".

If this isn't it, I give up.

Well, more accurately, my computer will turn emo from all the Blue Screens of Death and give up on life.
My ethernet controller apparently imploded last night, and since then, every helpful post I've attempted to
make has been interrupted by a Stop Error. How I managed to post anything at all is a wonder.

It's hard to believe that 27 hours ago I didn't even know what a BSoD looked like.

I've always thought the cherry theory was erroneous. I mean, the Eighth is clearly mincemeat.

So, the Great Removal is only the name of the objective? could it perhaps be that the Archivists and the Patrons have a different vision on how this objective needs to be achieved?

Actually, the Grand Event is only mentioned in JtRH and TT (please correct me if I'm wrong), which you haven't finished yet. O:-

My apologies for the bump. I just feel like this is the most relevant place to continue the discussion ever since I had a quasi-revelation.

mrimer wrote:

I take it, then, there is more than one person (such as leader 1st Archivist) or group of persons (such as the underling military [slayers, aumtlich, and presumably rock giants] or the Archivists as a whole) that want something along the lines of the Great Removal and, by extension, the Grand Event completed. One reason why various factions of the Rooted Empire are warring is because of conflicting views on how the Great Removal should be carried out (if at all, such as in the Patron case).

I dunno if "warring" is the appropriate term, since the factions seem to be arguing in the background (I.E., great battles across City proper are not taking place, at least according to Beethro's perspective).

Was there ever any mention that the patron's didn't want to carry out some kind of great removal? The only thing we know is that patrons don't want the 1st archivist's version carried out.
