Here is an application I want to share with you. Essentially it is a customizable fractal viewer. Currently it can render two types of fractals (Julia set and Mandelbrot ones) and has two coloring schemes (grayscale and rainbow palette). Plus, it can save the current frame to a file (size up to 10000 in any direction), zoom and scroll. Because I want to improve it further, do give me any suggestions and criticism you may have.

Some notes on controls: to scroll, drag the frame with the right mouse button. To zoom, either use the appropriate button on the top panel, or use mouse - you can select some area with left mouse button and zoom to that area by clicking in it. Everything else should be straightforward.

And sorry for a 4Mb file, Qt's dlls are rather heavy. Linux users: application is Wine'able.

And some rendered images (saved as 2000x2000 pngs and resized to look pretty):

eb0ny,
Could you possibly throw a Mac user (whose ancient computer isn't capable of running Boot Camp, Parallels Desktop, etc.) a bone by providing a screenshot? :)

Did you use Java? I love the thing! :)

Used Qt and C++.

BTW, anyone has any ideas for a DROD related fractal? The fractal classes' interface is pretty loose, I can code pretty much anything code-able.

If you want something similar for almost any OS try XaoS - just turn on the autopilot and watch it... :)

np: Vladislav Delay - Karha ((No)Huume)

Thanks, Briareos. :) I'm trying not (perhaps with, um, limited success lately) to come off as a Mac snob.

eb0ny, thanks as well for showing some screenshots...I'm impressed, to say the least. :Notworthy

An idea for a DROD-based fractal: roach made of roaches made of roaches made of... yeah. Attached image should explain the concept.

What do you think?

EDIT: I DID IT! Not as pretty as I thought it would be, but here you can see three tiers or roaches. Thank you, Mr. Menger Sierpinski.

If you can find a fractal that would do that, I'll be very impressed.

Very nice! :w00tAlthough I can't see the smallest tier of roaches that well... :(

Hmm... those fractals look nice! I have also been experimenting with fractals, IFS in particular. If you want to see my work:
IFS fractals on my blog and neofrac.zip - IFS with circle / swirl transforms. (477KB)

With IFS, a roach fractal may even be possible! ;)

Update! I have been messing with internals and the new version is done. Now I will be able to concentrate on actual fractals/coloring schemes. Changes that matter:

* Julia and Mandelbrot fractals' Z value can now be raised to an arbitrary power.
* Sierpinski carpet added!
* Proper widgets for text entry have been added in the configuration dialog.
* The roach fractal is included (select Sierpinski carpet and set the appropriate bitmask in configuration dialog).
