game lockup if Esc conversation with map guy (0)

I pressed Escape to break out of the map guy on level 2
telling me he had a map, and no movement commands worked
after I did so.

I pressed R to restart the room and all was well.

I haven't tried
this again so maybe it was a one-off.

Did you try waiting ten seconds or so? There's often a brief delay after skipping a cutscene.
