I'm going through the first few levels again now that I have the full version.

In Rule 3: Valor: Quarth North, Thrice East, its quite possible that you come from the east before you ever come from the west. In that case, you can pass straight through the room, then you get to the west side and the gray man appears saying 'you can't pass'.. though I already passed.

The path itself is clearly not a bug. The scripting is a little random there though, yeah.

How exactly are you coming from the east here?
The only way I see is in 3N 4E, but that's blocked by a force arrow.

Yeah, not a bug. He'll only appear when you are on the west side of the room.

Yeah, my point was that if you made him appear (if not appeared already) when you're coming from the east as well, it would look better than having him say 'you can't go past' when you came from there in the first place. After all, its inevitable that you have to fight him at some point.

What do you mean?
I finished that level without killing him (grabbed the potion and went back to the stairs without him reappearing), or do you mean later in some level that isn't in the demo?

Well, Gray Men are common enemies toward the end of the demo. He's more out of depth than a boss unique, to use roguelike terms. So it's inevitable you fight some of them. This one is indeed avoidable though.

what he meant was: if you go around the backway to the stairs and never actually trigger the grey man's appearance, then backtrack to level 3 or before to pick up some handy missing items, and then enter the room from the west, he'll say, "you cannot pass!" to which a snarky person might reply, "you mean, to that place I've already been?"
