You don't have to use a mimic potion.You can make it so you can't get it. If the mimic potion is on a trapddoor, make the mimic walk over it. Then the mimic potion will be on top of a lovely pit. I think it's kinda cool.

In Stuwy's "Mimic Land" there are plenty of examples where you can do this.
